All About the Goth Subculture

The goth culture began in England during the early 1980's in the gothic rock scene. The goth subculture has associated tastes in music, aesthetics, and fashion. They listen to gothic rock, deathrock, punk, and victorian styles. The term "gothic rock" was coined in 1967 by John Stickney. Gothic literature combines dark elements of both horror and romance. Gothic fashion is stereotyped as dark, mysterious, complex, and exotic. Typical gothic fashion includes dyed black hair, dark eyeliner, black nails and black period-styled clothing; they may or may not have piercings. Goths all have something in common, finding beauty in what others consider dark. For example, finding dead trees beautiful, and instead of having crushes on the good guys in films, they might lean owards the dark characters that seemed powerful . Goth isn't a phase, it's something you either are or aren't.

Steam-punk- steam punk is a sub-genre of goth. it's a mix of Victorian and Edwardian aesthetics combined with modern technology. It's a re-invented future or past that never happened.

My thoughts and opinions- I personally think that goth and steam-punk are really interesting and fun styles. Although, I, myself, wouldn't take up that style.
