Fashion Designing as a Career

This week, as requested by my lovely teacher, I'm going to do my blog on fashion designing as a career. I personally wouldn't choose this as my career because when I'm pressured to create things, I can't. I have all of these wonderful ideas, but I can't put them on paper, let alone make them with my own two hands. I'm also not that great of a drawer. Now that I got that out of the way, I would like to talk about the job.

WORK ACTIVITIES
 The work would normally involve:

  • Working to design instructions.
  • Analysing or predicting trends in fabrics, colors, and shapes.
  • Producing concept and mood boards.
  • Developing basic shapes through patterns.
  • Estimating costs for materials and manufacture.
  • Finding suppliers.
  • Supervising the making up of sample clothing items.
  • Making in-house presentations.
WORKING HOURS AND CONDITIONS:

You would work long hours and weekends in order to meet the deadline for a new collection that you were working on. You would be in a studio or workshop, maybe travel to visit manufacturers, often being over seas.

INCOME:

starting salaries is between $27,118 (18,000 Brittish pounds) to $33,145 (22,000 Brittish pounds) a year. With experience, it could increase to about $37,665 (25,000 Brittish pounds) to $60,264 (40,000 Brittish pounds). Senior designers can earn up to $90,396 (60,000 Brittish Pounds).

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

You will need a foundation degree, HND, or a degree to be a fashion designer. Once you have those, you will need to put together a portfolio of your work that you can take with you to job interviews and course. The portfolio should have mood boards, as well as designs and technical drawings.

SKILLS, INTERESTS AND QUALITIES:
To become a fashion designer, you need to have:
  • A good eye for color, texture and shape.
  • An understanding of the characteristics for fabrics and how they can be used.
  • Technical skills such as pattern cutting and sewing.
  • The ability to spot and develop trends.
  • Drawing skills.
  • The ability to use computer design packages.
  • An understanding of production processes.
  • The ability to solve problems.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.

The Ragged Priest

For this week's blog, I wanted to write about one of my favorite online stores, The Ragged Priest. They make amazing clothes with cool designs and textures. I would buy everything, but I'm a broke teenager who wants too many things. I follow them on Instagram, and they're having a contest called 'denim week' . Basically, you choose one of your favorite pairs of jeans in their site, take a picture of it, then write why you want it then put @theraggedpriest #denimweek #theraggedpriest, then at the end of the week, they choose 5 winners. The pants I chose were, what I call, "space mom jeans" .
I like this entire outfit, especially the shoes. I like the pants because they have pretty colors and look like they're space pants! Now I will show you some other things I would like to buy from their store!
1.
The piece of clothing I like the most in this outfit is the split t-shirt because it's sheer, split, long, and shiny! I also figured it was unique and different. I like separating myself from everybody else.
2.
My second favorite thing is obviously this black netted crop top. It just looks really cool, so you know, I want it. I know that's a vague reason, but I figured it was obvious as to why I want this.
3.
The third favorite thing I want from their store is this entire outfit, but mostly the long, black sheer shirt/dress thing with sparkly letters on it. They actually have high-waisted mom jeans that have sparkly letters all over them as well. I like this just because it's cute and it's so me!!
4.
My fourth favorite thing is also this outfit, and once again, mostly the silver, sheer shirt/dress. It's just so simple, shiny, and amazing. Plus it goes with everything.
5.
My fifth favorite thing is this gross cropped T. First of all, I want it because it says "gross" on it in sparkly letters, and if you know me well, you'd know that gross just explains me. I'm not saying that I'm gross, I'm just saying that my friend and I have an inside joke involving that word.
6.
My sixth favorite thing is very similar to my fourth. What's different is the fact that the sleeves are longer, and the bottom sort of looks like a skirt. It's also a bit shorter, but I like it for the same reasons why I liked the other one.
7.
My seventh favorite thing is this long sleeve crop top. I like it because it's shiny, black, long sleeve, and it has cool slits where your elbow is!
8.
My eighth favorite thing is this jacket. May I just say, it is friken AMAZING. Just, everything about it. That is all that needs to be said about this.
9.
And finally, my last favorite thing is this outfit/model/picture. First of all, the model's hair is perfect. It's so fresh looking. I really want to learn how to braid like that. Secondly, the shoes. I have those same exact shoes in fushia pink. Thirdly, the shirt and shorts that look like a sports bra and high waisted underwear are cool. The colors, everything. Lastly, the sheer gray dress. It's fabulous.

That's all for this blog, I hope you enjoyed. If you liked any of these things, their website is: theraggedpriest.com

All About the Goth Subculture

The goth culture began in England during the early 1980's in the gothic rock scene. The goth subculture has associated tastes in music, aesthetics, and fashion. They listen to gothic rock, deathrock, punk, and victorian styles. The term "gothic rock" was coined in 1967 by John Stickney. Gothic literature combines dark elements of both horror and romance. Gothic fashion is stereotyped as dark, mysterious, complex, and exotic. Typical gothic fashion includes dyed black hair, dark eyeliner, black nails and black period-styled clothing; they may or may not have piercings. Goths all have something in common, finding beauty in what others consider dark. For example, finding dead trees beautiful, and instead of having crushes on the good guys in films, they might lean owards the dark characters that seemed powerful . Goth isn't a phase, it's something you either are or aren't.

Steam-punk- steam punk is a sub-genre of goth. it's a mix of Victorian and Edwardian aesthetics combined with modern technology. It's a re-invented future or past that never happened.

My thoughts and opinions- I personally think that goth and steam-punk are really interesting and fun styles. Although, I, myself, wouldn't take up that style.

My favorite fuzzy outfits !

1. Pink fuzzy shirt, skirt, and jacket- The reason why I love this outfit is because 1) I love fuzzy things, & 2) it's cute as heck! I also like the fact that there's not too much to it, it's simple. Simple is always good.

2. Blue fuzzy crop top with pink polka dots- First, I would like to put out there just how much I love the person wearing this outfit. She is a wonderful singer, Melanie Martinez, and she was on The Voice. Her song Carousel was the theme song for season 4 American Horror Story, Freak Show. I love her style because it's just so great, so obviously I love this outfit, shirt and all.
3. White fuzzy shorts and shirt with pink garder- I love this outfit because of the cute hand made pink garder, and because of the simplicity of it. It's super cute, but the Shorts are a bit too short for me.
4. Blue striped off the shoulder top and skirt- I love this outfit because of the colors and stripes that you can kind of see. I also love the shoes because they're fuzzy and have a high heal. I just love this picture in general.
5. Green alien shirt and a pink pencil skirt with purple fuzzy trim- I absolutely adore this outfit because aliens are cool. I'm really into alien backpacks, shirts, etc. I also LOVE this skirt and her little fluff ball earrings !

5 top favorite things of the week

1. A clear rose chocker- this chocker is one of my favorite things because it is so beautiful . I also like it because it was hand made, and you can tell the person put a lot of effort into it. There's multiple shops on etsy.com , so if you are interested, check them out.

2. A clear, plastic, mermaid green t-shirt- This shirt is so amazing and I would love to know where to find one!!! I call the color mermaid green, but others might call it forest green. If you look closely, you'll notice the shiny green tint of the clear, plastic part on the shirt. I believe I could wear this well !

3. Shear skirt- next for my top 5 favorite things this week is this gorgeous shear skirt. I love the way it flows as she walks, I love the blue and silver beaded pattern on it, an I even love the shoes that go with it. Everything about this is flawless.

4. Cute, fuzzy outfit- this outfit, to me, is just so playful and cute! I love the oversized ring on the chocker, the pink fuzzy dress with blue hearts and black trim, and I love the clear pumps with the fuzzy detail on the top. I would love to have this outfit, and if I did, I would wear it very often. Plus, I mean, who can resist a fuzzy outfit like this? I would imagine it's great to cuddle in!

5. High waisted shorts with ruffle trim and cats- finally, my last favorite thing for this week are these adorable shorts! First of all, I would like to point out the cats. If you don't know this already, I'm a huge fan of cats, so that's my favorite thing about the shorts. I also love the fact that their high-waisted, vintage looking, and have the ruffle trim in the bottom.

Thank you for viewing my blog, and I hope you love these different pieces of clothing as much as I do! If you know where to find anything similar to these items, or know where to find the exact item, please comment !! I would gladly appreciate it :)

Halloween costume

This week, i'm doing my blog on what i'm going to be for Halloween, and that is a unicorn! Now, I don't mean a childish one, so don't think that.

My unicorn costume is going to be expensive, but definitely worth it. I already ordered the corset and tutu, and i already have the shoes, so all i need to order are my leg wraps, purple and white fluffies, body glitter, and the horn itself. I plan on my unicorn being lavender and white. For the horn, i'm not sure if i should go with the silver or the light glittery pink horn. I am to purchase the horn at etsy.com from the store FireflyPath. https://www.etsy.com/shop/FireflyPath?ref=l2-shopheader-name They make really cool horns all priced at $45, so if you're interested, I would suggest clicking on the link and checking them out!

5 favorite things

This week, I decided to do my blog on my 5 favorite things in fashion. All of them will be pretty unusual, i'm sure. First off, I would like to tell you that my favorite things are holographic, fuzzy, and shiny things. My favorite types of shoes are platforms, jelly sandals, creepers, and flatform platforms.

1) The holographic lavender outift

The outfit to the left is so adorable. The shoes are platforms with holographic straps. I also love the lavender skater skirt and crop top. What makes it even better is that shiny, sheer, slightly holographic scarf and purple holographic hand bag.

2) The see-through sunflower pencil skirt.

This skirt is by far one of my favorites. I love the fact that its see-through and has pretty sunflowers. I have no idea what i would wear under it, but I could definitely see myself wearing this.
3) Fish bowl backpack

This fishbowl backpack is definitely unique and rad as heck! I wish I had one!! But, I feel like it would be torture for the fish being sloshed around all day.
4) Unicorn flatform platforms

These are literally the best shoes ever. I'm completely in love with unicorns and i think rainbows are gorgeous, so those are two reasons why I love it. Another reason, the height of the shoes. They're just all-around perfect. I even know what website to find these on! They have one of a kind shoes and clothes that I think you would love if your style is like mine. http://www.dollskill.com/
5) Fuzzy pink barbie backpack

Well I think it's pretty obvious why i like this one, IT'S FUZZY! As I said before, I absolutely love fuzzy things. I would definitely wear this.
